In today’s roundup of “What We’re Buying,” we did a little saving, a little splurging and a lot of shopping in general — whether for ourselves or others. Check out the things PEOPLE StyleWatch editors (as well as Doobop.com’s Jodie Patterson) are loving right now!

Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: Sunday was my “gift shopping day,” also known as the day I keep trying to buy things for myself while my husband stands in the background going “We’re not shopping for you. We’re shopping for presents. Put back the sweater. Stop trying to sneak those placemats into your shopping cart.” So I spent a lot of time sullenly sniffing candles while eyeballing the glittery skirt I really wanted to get.
That’s how I know these candles are exceptionally great — they actually got me to put down plastic to buy a few for friends. I spotted them at this cute and very hip San Francisco boutique, Little Paper Planes, so I wasn’t surprised to find out that each soy wax Pommes Frites candle is handmade in L.A. in small batches, or that all the scents are equally artisanal, or that they have their own Etsy shop, which I’m excited to bookmark for the next time I’m allowed to buy stuff for myself.

Jodie Patterson, co-founder of Doobop.com Truth: I have a ridiculous obsession with all things romantic, colorful and functional. That’s why the line Tucker by Gaby Basora is killer for me, and why I couldn’t resist splurging on her Pod Coat.
As a New Yorker I walk the streets all day from meeting to meeting, plus I’m a mom of five — so I’m always in transit. Chic outerwear is key for me! The perfect coat is like the perfect jean: I never regret the purchase. Gaby’s Pod is so cozy that it allows me to keep rocking my pretty silks (with tights, of course!) way into the winter. Plus the cut is so ladylike that I always feel like a babe.

Brittany Talarico, Associate Style Editor: I’ve been on the market for a fancy pencil skirt since I fell in love with this gold metallic stunner on Emma Roberts. Plus, I’m tired of the snoozy black one that I wear all the time.
Enter this sanded sequin mini, which is perfect for the holiday season. I can dress it down with a festive top and pumps for a party or transition it for work with some tights and a blazer. Bonus: It’s on sale right now!

Zoë Ruderman, Senior Style Editor I was lucky enough to be one of the first editors to get to check out a new capsule collection from one of my favorite jewelry brands, Stella & Dot. And I’m so glad I did. The “Norah” pieces are inspired by a pendant from the ’70s that was discovered at a flea market, and they’re just gorgeous.
I love the vintage vibe and the bright colors, so as soon as they go on sale (early Thursday morning), I’ll be on stellaanddot.com, credit card in hand, ready to order the necklace, $98, and bracelet, $79. I plan to keep one for myself and gift the other. (Hmm, maybe I need Alex’s husband to stand behind me while I shop and remind me not to buy for myself …)
