What We're Buying: The Bags and Shoes We Can't Live Without for Spring

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” Below, check out our favorite finds at the moment, from chic metallic bags to investment heels (courtesy of stylist Anita Patrickson!) to a pair of shoes that our editor is going to passionately defend, no matter what you think.

REbecca Minkoff BagCourtesy the Outnet

Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: For many people, spring cleaning is a chance to clear out all the clutter and start fresh. For me, it’s a time to empty out my closet and sell everything on ThredUp (they send you a postmarked bag and put all your clothes up for sale — no work involved. Baller.) Then I use that cash to buy all the stuff I’ve marked with a “heart” on Shop It To Me so I can watch the price as it drops (yeah, like I pay full price for anything anymore).

First on my shopping list: This awesome rose-gold Rebecca Minkoff bag, which I’ve had my eye on for a while but have just been patiently waiting for the Shop It To Me “Sale Mail” to arrive in my inbox and inform me that the price dropped (yes, I’m addicted). Now that it’s marked down $80, I can finally add it to my closet — it’ll look perfect against all the pastels I’m planning to pick up for spring. It might not be the most effective version of spring cleaning, but hey, whatever works, right?

Anita Patrickson blog stylistCourtesy Anita Patrickson

Anita Patrickson, celebrity stylist: Finding a pair of shoes that can take my outfit instantly from “drab to fab” is an absolute winner in my books!

My wardrobe is full of everyday basics that I live in when I am working on set or running to appointments during the day. I very often throw a pair of pumps into my car so that when evening rolls around I can head straight from a fitting to drinks with a gal pal. I love the ease of being able add one item to my look and finding myself cocktail ready!

Valentino is one of my favorite designers, but isn’t particularly kind on the old bank balance! So, I really try to limit high end purchases to timeless classics that will be in my wardrobe for years to come. These red pumps are just that but with a little bit of a twist. They’re fun and funky but also very simple and sleek in their design. The perfect accent to a cocktail dress or a fabulous way to dress up jeans and a blazer.

Anita Patrickson is a top Hollywood and editorial stylist. Check out her blog at AnitaPatrickson.com, and follow on her Twitter and Instagram!

Fit FlopsCourtesy Fit Flop

Catherine Kast, Writer-Reporter: Don’t kill me. I bought Fit Flops for spring. Seriously, if I told you they were Marni would you have doubted me for a second? No. You wouldn’t have. I can actually walk in them and they give a little bit of lift without the ache of a heel pounding the pavement as I trip down the subway stairs like I do at least once a fashion week and a half-dozen times a summer. If the Olsens wear things like this I figure I can too. They’re like Lanvin with an orthotic twist. I’m all in.

Note to any of my fashion editors: if you do try to kill me just know I sleep with one eye open and a Fit Flop in each hand. Trust me, those things are like paddles and would definitely leave a mark.

What We're Buying: Eco-Friendly Options for Earth Day

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” And this week, in honor of Earth Day, we’re highlighting six things that are eco-friendly, made sustainably or help the environment in some way. Check out the fashion, beauty and more that makes it easy to be green.

H&M conscious collectionCourtesy H&M

Brittany Talarico, Associate Style Editor: I’m in the process of planning my honeymoon. The location changes on a daily basis (right now the Greek Isles are in the lead), but we know it’s going to be somewhere with a warm climate and beaches. So even though it’s not officially booked, I’ve been happily purchasing clothes (a lot of clothes) for my trip. Basically, everything from H&M’s new Conscious Collection would be great for say a vacay in Santorini, not only because the pieces are so freakin’ cute, but also because they are sustainable, promote environmental awareness and safe work practices. Plus, the H&M Conscious Foundation improves access to education and clean water to communities in need.

Now that you’ve heard the spiel, you can totally see why I’m about to add this hot-pink tassel tunic ($29.95) to my shopping cart. It’s perfect as a beach coverup or topper to a pair of white skinnies. The only thing left to decide is if I need the black one too.

Free For All boxCourtesy Birchbox

Whitney Little, Associate Producer: Everyone I know loves Birchbox . All you have to do is fork over $10 for an assortment of beauty samples, delivered to your door monthly. But now I love Birchbox even more, because the company put together a limited-edition Free for All box, filled with popular eco-friendly brands and a FEED pouch.

I’ll admit I’m always nervous to try these types of products — they tend to be hit or miss for me. But this box is full of the best of the best, so you’ll be sure to find a line you need in your life. (And once you do, you can visit Birchbox’s new ingredient-conscious site to order even more!)

People's Movement teeCourtesy People’s Movement

Bronwyn Barnes, Senior Style Editor: Save the whales, the dolphins and the sea turtles! Not only is this People’s Movement anchor t-shirt “adoranautical” (take that, Zooey Deschanel!), it’s made of used plastic bags collected from the harbors of Southern California by kids at Canyon Elementary School in Pacific Palisades. Plus, a portion of the profits is donated to 5 Gyres, an organization dedicated to stopping plastic bag pollution, which kills over 100,000 marine animals each year.

I can’t wear a Breton stripe shirt every day of the summer (though, technically, I own enough of them that I could) so this silver cotton tee is the perfect alternative. It’ll go perfectly with a pair of white denim cutoffs and my New Balance newSKY sneakers, which are made of recycled plastic bottles.

Eminence facial maskCourtesy Eminence

Sarah Kinonen, Freelance Beauty Assistant: In honor of Earth Day, I’d like to shine a light on one of my all-time favorite skin care brands: Éminence Organic Skin Care. Just as its name claims, Éminence is a Hungarian organic skin care company that strives to bring users clear, younger-looking skin with each one of its many cleansers, serums and masks, all made from organic fruits, vegetables and herbs. Although the masks are my favorite (hello, Cranberry Pomegranate Mask, you’re perfect), I love the fact that Éminence plants a tree for every product sold. How can you not love this brand? Help celebrate the planet by checking Éminence out!

ThredUp online appCourtesy ThredUp

Heather Viggiani, Assistant Editor: Last week, you heard about how Alex sent her unwanted clothing, bags and shoes to ThredUp.com. Well, one woman’s closet clean-out is another woman’s style win! I scored this Robert Rodriguez jersey dress (NWT!) for less than $100 on the site. Who knew recycling could be so chic? The dress was actually part of their new “X Collection,” a section dedicated to secondhand finds from hot brands like Parker and Elizabeth & James — it’s pretty amazing. Hop on to give some great dresses, tops and more a second life—as long as you don’t share my size!

PuretergentCourtesy Puretergent

Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: I’m trying very hard to do my part for the environment by buying less and taking better, greener care of the things I do have. Though I’m not quite at the composting stage of life (don’t tell my crunchy San Francisco neighbors, please) I have been thinking more about the detergents and soaps I use in the dishwasher and washing machine. I realized that if I can avoid rinsing tons of chemicals down the drain, I probably should.

The problem is that many eco-friendly solutions to the problem don’t quite get my laundry as clean as I’d like. I tried a sample of this Puretergent (which is based out here in Oakland, Calif.) and was pleasantly surprised. It smells fresh but not sweet, works really well (it’s high-efficiency) and the packaging is chic and sustainable. (All that blah blah here.) I’m not quite ready to be a regular hiker or craft all my own clothes out of hemp, but this is a start.

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” This week, we’re all modeling our most recent finds — and Nicole Richie is weighing in on the floral blazer she loves for spring.

Bun PinsCourtesy Catherine Kast

Catherine Kast, Writer/Reporter: While perusing My Kitsch, a site that stocks adorable dainty earrings that resemble the ones that the models wear in their secondary ear holes, I discovered these Bun Pins. I know it sounds like I just said “Bump It,” but don’t worry, it’s not that. It’s much better.

Now that April is coming to a close, I’m going to mourn the end of Princess Kate’s fashion tour Down Under and half-mourn the end of Coachella by wearing this accessory that gives me the best of both worlds. Let’s call it a tiara with a twist. I wore it with a pretty regular twisted bun and a semi-side-swept front. If you wanted to steer your look more festival-chic (or you think you’re a modern-day Khaleesi) try a loose deconstructed sock bun with lots of pieces hanging out in front and rock the feathery version. Maxi dress not required.

Nicole Richie floral blazerMichael Kovac/Getty

Nicole Richie: I just bought this Givenchy jacket the other day and I’m excited about it. I’m excited about it for spring. I just like the way it fit, I liked that it was a little bit oversized and just something new for spring.

Pickwick and Weller shirtCourtesy Zoe Ruderman

Zoë Ruderman, Deputy Style and Beauty Director: T-shirt company Pickwick & Weller recently asked a few editors and bloggers to test-drive their tees and share tips of accessorizing the pieces. Fast forward to a few weeks later and this white V-neck has become one of the most-worn items in my closet. The silhouette is just right (flattering deep-V, not-too-short sleeves, longer hemline, comfy, stretchy material) and it’s clean and crisp so I don’t feel shlumpy when I wear it to work with jeans on Fridays. I added my favorite Stella & Dot “Rebel” pendant and this sunny perforated clutch for a recent dinner in Brooklyn Heights, and I may or may not have slept in the tee that night, too (what? It’s really comfortable).

Sorial bagCourtesy Whitney Little

Whitney Little, Associate Producer: When it comes to handbags, I’m a one-purse kind of lady. My latest bag has been with me every single day since September, and I decided it’s time for a break now that the weather is finally warming up. Obviously, my standards are high when it comes to purchasing a new bag — after all, it’s a big commitment. But when I laid my eyes on this Sorial accessory, I knew it was true love.

The tote and I made our public debut over the weekend, and I got tons of compliments. I love the (vegan!) leather’s look and feel, and the orange adds a nice pop of color for the summer. Plus, the bag is roomy enough for me to store everything (my entire apartment would probably fit), but it’s super lightweight. And the best part: I scored 66% off the regular price! I have a feeling my new tote and I are going to be very happy together — until my next true love comes along.

What We're Buying Our Moms for Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is Sunday! What have you got planned? We’re a little past the point where we can skate by with a hand-drawn card and a mug of coffee, so we take shopping for our moms very seriously. Below, see exactly what our editors picked out for the moms in their lives … and we’re not going to lie, we wouldn’t mind getting ourselves. Wait, it’s not Kids’ Day yet? Maybe we haven’t matured that far past our hand-drawn card days. (P.S. Style editor moms: No peeking!)

RELATED PHOTOS: Star-approved gifts for Mothers’ Day!

Cuyana RobeCourtesy Cuyana

Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: One of the funny things about moving far from home is that you realize how much your mom really needs you … to provide style advice from time to time. On a recent trip back to Chicago, I was equal parts amused and horrified to see her hanging out in a black robe that had sort of a “Comfortable New Orleans Madam” vibe. Of course I gave her my extremely subtle and constructive criticism (heavy dose of sarcasm), and she charged me with finding her a better, cooler one.

Well, this is it. I was already a Cuyana devotee for their chic, well-made leather goods, but recently I’m loving their Turkish towel and robe collection as well. I love Turkish robes because they’re lightweight but still absorbent, comfortable but cool — this is a robe you could wear to sit out by the pool in the summer and not worry about the neighbors getting the wrong idea. I picked the rose color because pink is my personal favorite, and I want her to remember how great I am even when I’m far away.

Tory Burch bagCourtesy Tory Burch

Andrea Lavinthal, Style and Beauty Director: Like Alex, I provide my mother with an endless stream of unsolicited advice on what she should and should not be wearing (yes to espadrilles, no to anything with polka dots). The last time I saw her, she was carrying an oversize leather tote that resembled a fancy diaper bag. So this Mother’s Day I’m introducing her to the game-changing world of cross-body bags. This tan leather one is as classic as it gets, yet the shape still feels modern and it fits all of her essentials (including Binaca because my mother is the last person on Earth who still uses it.) Plus, the Tory Burch logo is guaranteed to garner lots of compliments at her next book club.

Fresh maskCourtesy Fresh

Brittany Talarico, Associate Style Editor: My mom is very fashion-forward. My friends always tease me with the famous Amy Poehler line from Mean Girls, “I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom,” because it’s true. (No, she’s not a crazy lady wearing Juicy jumpsuits, but I’ve been shopping her closet since high school. It’s amazing.) So needless to say, she doesn’t need much in the clothes department. But she’s always asking me about what beauty things to try. Enter: This Rose Face Mask from Fresh. She doesn’t have any of the brand’s products (they’re some of my faves!) in her skincare rotation yet, and I think this hydrating, cooling cream is the perfect starter. Once she’s hooked, I’ll add on to her collection.

Coordinates braceletCourtesy Coordinates

Zoë Ruderman, Deputy Style and Beauty Director: Two of my boyfriend’s brothers recently had babies, which means two things. First: My boyfriend’s mother has eased up slightly on the when-are-you-two-getting-pregnant pressure. And secondly, I need to offer up gift suggestions for the dads to give to their wives. (That’s your job when you’re the style editor in the family.) I recommended the Coordinates Collection bracelet to both.

It’s personalized jewelry 2.0 (no initials, no birth stones, no profile silhouette pendants). You go on the site and put in a meaningful location (psst, guys, that would be the place the baby was born) and you get a gorgeous understated bangle in the finish of your choosing engraved with the spot’s latitude and longitude. (They’re almost beautiful enough to make me want to have a baby. But don’t tell that to my boyfriend’s mom.)

Josie Maran beautyCourtesy Josie Maran

Jackie Fields, Writer/Reporter: I love sending my mom beauty swag. Truthfully, her home looks like the main floor of Macy’s Herald Square because of of it. So why, oh why, would I inundate her with more product? Because there are items you test and toss (I’m still working the “toss” part with her), and those you try and stock forever. Josie Maran’s argan oil products are the latter.

So this Mother’s Day, I’ll pick up this cult classic in pretty new packaging. It’s super hydrating and eye-catching: so basically the best of both worlds. The formula and fragrance are light enough that she can spritz herself with her favorite Prada scent after applying. Speaking of, I better pick up a bottle of that, too.

Skagen watchCourtesy Skagen

Bronwyn Barnes, Senior Style Editor: Over the years I have been known to … let’s say “borrow” things from my mother’s closet without her knowing about it. So when she lost her favorite Skagen watch a few years ago, I became the prime suspect. For the record, mom, I didn’t take your watch, but just to show there are no hard feelings I am going to replace it with this sleek three-hand beauty, which features a minimalist crystal-embellished face and an azure blue leather band. (Full disclosure: I did swipe a couple of your amazingly soft Ann Taylor stretch camisoles the last time I visited, so I’ll throw in a couple of those as well.)

What We're Buying: Three Great Pairs of Shoes and One Killer $25 Dress

$

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” This week, we’ve got great shoes on the brain — and Penny Chic’s Shauna Miller shows off her fab $25 find.

Penny ChicCourtesy Shauna Miller

Shauna Miller, Penny Chic author: Double layered dresses are my latest obsession! The top and bottom may look like separates, but in fact, it’s one piece. I bought this for $25 at Forever21 to style on my blog, Penny Chic, but ended up keeping it for myself when I noticed the quality and fit. The shape has a structure to it and the texture feels more lux than what I normally find at fast fashion chains. The best thing about these double layered dresses, though, is the slimming effect! The break at the waist shows off your shape in the most subtle way possible, without hugging your curves or needing a skin tight fabric. Translation? I can wear this dress to work meetings, in addition to my friend’s wedding this summer. For me, that’s a major plus!

Shauna blogs about affordable fashion at PennyChic.com. Check her out there, on Instagram and Twitter!

BirkinstocksCourtesy Gettyy

Catherine Kast, Writer/Reporter: I’m on board with the ugly sandal trend, but my obsession was taken to the next level when I spotted a Hollywood stylist [let's leave her anonymous] perusing the outdoor Brooklyn flea market two weeks ago wearing white Birkenstocks. After downing an ice cream sandwich from a nearby booth and repeating “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” in my head to convince me it was okay, I hopped on Zappos.com and ordered the same ones. Despite what my mom used to tell me — that Birks made my feet look like “slabs of meat” — I’m convinced that their width and bulkiness makes my ankles and calves look slimmer. I’m really pleased with the edge they bring to spring outfits, from boyfriend jeans to frocks with a Peter Pan collar. And believe it or not, they are super comfortable and the white sole has yet to get dirty. Listen, if you’re going to go ugly, be bold. Steer clear of the dark neutrals and get these in bright white or a metallic!

Lanvin FlatsCourtesy Bronwyn Barnes

Bronwyn Barnes, Senior Style Editor: My one and only trip to the legendary Barneys Warehouse Sale — a twice-yearly fashion scavenger hunt that makes The Hunger Games look like a tea party –- left me traumatized, so I was thrilled when the retailer launched its online Warehouse in 2013. My latest score is a pair of two-tone calf hair and leather Lanvin ballet flats with bow-detailed ankle straps. Original price: $790, Barneys Warehouse price: $319. That’s a 60% discount. For Lanvin flats. (Sorry, I got the last pair.) Why wake up at the crack of dawn to risk being trampled by rabid shoppers when you can look for designer steals from the comfort and safety of your own home 24 hours a day, 365 days a year?

Sorial bagCourtesy Barney’s

Jackie Fields, Writer/Reporter: A week or so ago the weather in N.Y.C went from “officially winter” to “why do you have so much clothing on!” And I needed to act fast. Luckily my spring/summer 2013 wardrobe is recyclable. My shoes, not so much. Complicating things was that I desperately need a pedi, and couldn’t find an hour in my cray cray sked to sit and sip citrus tea in Jin Soon (it’s my sacred space). So, I resort to plan B. In this case, B is for Barneys (but you knew that, didn’t you?).

Operation “find a spring flat” went into effect in the wee hours one morning, and less than 10 minutes later I had scored these gorgeous Rochas shoes — on sale. On sale, people! Snag a pair, stat. I don’t know what season they are, and I don’t care. What matters is I know how to pronounce Rochas with conviction, and this soft gold tone is killer with my spray tan. These will be my go-tos until at least Memorial Day, and I already can’t wait until September rings in fall fashion week and I can break them out again.

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” This week, we’re all about fun summer finds, like great new shoes, killer summer-perfect pants (like the ones on Suits‘s Meghan Markle!) and a do-good accessory.

Dolce Vita sandalsCourtesy Nordstrom

Heather Viggiani, Assistant Editor You can’t have enough pairs of stylish flat sandals, right? I mean, you need a pair for outdoor brunch, another pair that go well with a sunset cocktail, another that will amp up a bikini at the beach … the list goes on forever, right? Okay, so maybe some of these occasions don’t warrant their own specific pair of statement-y flats, which is why when I saw this DV by Dolce Vita pair on Nordstrom.com a few weeks ago, I told myself I’d only buy them if they were just a little bit less expensive. (I already had these much more practical and versatile sandals in my cart.) So I “Hukked” them, then forgot about them. (For those of you not aware, “Hukking” is the act of flagging things you love but can only buy on sale, then being delighted when you find out about that sale. See also: “Bliss.”) Imagine my delight when I got my Hukkster email this weekend! Purchased immediately. Then I spent another 20 minutes on their superaddictive new “Tinder for clothes” app — seriously, you’ve got to try it (though I can’t be held responsible for you wasting half the afternoon).

Piamita floral pantsCourtesy

Meghan Markle, Actress and founder of TheTIG.com: I adore the bold print of these Piamita pants! I look at them and just feel happy. They are the multi-purpose pant that can be worn running errands with flats and a sweater or dressed up with a killer heel and leather jacket for a night out.

They are so comfortable to wear between filming scenes on the set of Suits, on long flights, or just casually at home when I am writing for my new lifestyle website, The TIG. Also, the black-based floral print is chic and on-trend for the season. #bestpantsever

Meghan Markle is an actress best known for her role on USA’s Suits, and she also just launched a lifestyle website called TheTIG.com, which features guest posts from “influencers” including Emmy Rossum and Serena Williams. Check her out there, as well as on Twitter and Instagram!

DVF heelsCourtesy Zoë Ruderman

Zoë Ruderman, Deputy Style and Beauty Director: I sometimes call my boyfriend Imelda Marcos because, in addition to being half-Filipino, he owns a lot of shoes. So when I heard about a new-ish men’s line called Beckett Simonon, which is like the Bonobos of shoes (all online and no middleman so prices are surprisingly low for the high quality), I ordered him a pair. These leather Chukka boots, $149, go with every pair of pants he owns and are the perfect work shoe. And since I can’t have my boyfriend owning more shoes than I do, I obviously went out and got a new pair for myself, too (it’s simple math, people). They’re the Diane von Furstenberg “Jodi” sandals and I’ve had my eye on them for a while, but couldn’t bring myself to spend over $300 to get them. When I came across the designer heels at Marshalls with an under-$150 price tag, I snatched them right up.

BirkinstocksCourtesy

Jackie Fields, Writer/Reporter: I have a slight obsession with Claire Danes’s style that pretty much dates back to when I was Nirvana-obsessed teen and she played flannel-wearing Angela Chase on My So Called Life (these days, I pass the time obsessing over how she rocks a midi-length hem like none other).

So a week ago, when I found out that Danes and her makeup artist Matin Maulawizada had teamed up to launch a line of scarves designed by the actress’s mother Carla Danes to benefit the organization Afghan Hands, I had to get my hands on the charitable accessory. I snatched up the cream and gold “Claire” style, which I imagine was inspired by the actress. The $300 price tag was a no-brainer once I discovered that all proceeds go to educating Afghan women. If you’re going to splurge, why not for a good cause?

BirkinstocksCourtesy

Bronwyn Barnes, Senior Style Editor: From strapless velour rompers to acid washed overalls, I’ve followed some of the most ill-advised onesie trends. But no matter how many times it has come back into fashion over the years, I have always been fiercely anti-jumpsuit. Thanks to my long torso and long legs, every jumpsuit I’d ever tried on was way too snug in all the wrong places. (I won’t use the crass term for the fashion faux pas, which is named after a certain part of a desert-dwelling dromedary.)

So I’m not sure why I ordered this one from Peter Som’s line for Kohl’s DesignNation, but boy am I glad I did. I went a size up to accommodate my irregular proportions, but I don’t look dumpy thanks to the figure-flattering elastic waistband, tapered leg and surplice neckline. I did ditch the matching black wide sash that comes with it in favor of a more waist-defining Zara chain belt. I got so many compliments the first couple of times I wore it I went back to get another one, only to discover that it’s now 40% off. I’d like to thank Mr. Som for helping me learn to love the jumpsuit.

What We're Buying: Great Shoes, Chic Bags, a Pretty Summer Dress - and a Whole Outfit for Under $100

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” This week, we’re all about amazing summer finds — from the accessories we’re wearing everywhere to the under-$100 outfit we’ll wear all summer.

Gap dress, Gap jean jacketCourtesy Whitney Little

Whitney Little, Associate Producer: I tend to go on very innocent benders from time to time. Some nights I’ll watch five straight hours of Bravo programming. Other times I’ll eat an entire pint of ice cream without coming up for air. This Memorial Day weekend, while everyone else was at the beach, I decided to go on a Gap spree.

At left you can see my purchases: a summery white linen dress, a denim vest (deal with it) and a pair of aviators — all totaling under $100, thanks to the store’s 40% off sale.

But really, the pièce de résistance is the lovely floral collared shirt I convinced my boyfriend to purchase (it appears to be sold out online, but there are similar styles here). He’s so good with his money it makes me envious, but even he couldn’t resist the great deals — and he gave in when I convinced him the top was just out-there enough to look trendy. And after trying it on he agreed, which is why he decided to pose like Zoolander in all of our Memorial Day party photos.

Mansur Gavriel bag Kate YoungCourtesy Kate Young

Kate Young, Celebrity Stylist and Ask.com Style Expert: Summer is all about brightening up your look and the easiest way to do that is with pastel colors, which are the “hot” trend this summer. I tell women to incorporate the pastel trend into their accessories for a playful pop of color. A fun pale yellow shoe or a creamy lime green bag can give a basic outfit a boost of summer color.

My fun purchase this summer is my Mansur Gavriel large “Cammello” tote. I love the brand for the simplicity and modernity of their bags and I’m excited about the tote because I’m currently obsessed with pink. Pink makes me happy. I love that the inside of the bag is pink, which is so unexpected, cheerful and definitely on trend. The bag shape is basic but the pastel interior adds a ladylike femininity that’s perfect for summer. I can take this bag anywhere and the pastel interior will brighten up any outfit.

Kate Young is a top Hollywood and editorial stylist with clients including Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams. She is also the style expert for Ask.com.

Matt Bernson sandalsCourtesy Matt Bernson

Andrea Lavinthal, Style and Beauty Director: If you’re a regular What We’re Buying reader, than you already know my fashion golden rule: If you love it buy in two (or more) colors. And man do I love my new Matt Bernson “Harrison” sandals. I had been eyeing them online for a few weeks, but it wasn’t until I tried them on at the TriBeCa store that I knew I’d be leaving with more than one pair of the same style. In addition to being super-cute (I’ve lost track of the “I love your shoes!” compliments), they’re really comfortable. Like I can wear them for 12 straight hours and not want to amputate my feet at the end of day. They come in four color combos and after much deliberation I chose the sand/gold and the black/cognac, but I have a feeling the natural/white ones will make it into my closet in the near future.

Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: It’s starting to worry me that “Shopbop was having a sale” is becoming a consistent theme in my “What We’re Buying” posts, but in the wise words of my sister when I ask her why she’s still asleep at 2:00 p.m., “It is what it is.” This time around, Shopbop targeted my weakness for large discounts and summery clothing with this pretty Charlie Jade “Ava” maxi dress.

The best thing about it is that it’s under $100 with the discount. The second best thing about it is that I can already think of a handful of ways and places to wear it this summer. The third best thing about it is that I’m sick of all my existing maxi dresses so this is going to brighten up my wardrobe in a big way. (Especially because the other things I bought were a black blazer, black dress and black top. I may live in San Francisco, but my closet is still totally N.Y.C.)

Gap dress, Gap jean jacketCourtesy Zara

Rosa Heyman, Excutive Assistant: Buying shoes online makes me nervous –- I much prefer to try them on in the store, not only to assess their comfort level, but also to make sure they look right. You know how certain pairs of shoes can inexplicably look weird on your feet, even if they’re the right size? Like you have clown feet or super-long toes? One of life’s mysterious and annoying wonders. Anyways. These Zara sandals caught my eye because I’ve been on the hunt for a daytime summer shoe that I can wear to work and on the weekends; sandals that look much more chic than the average beach variety.

Living in New York City, I do a lot (a lot) of walking and so I like to wear a bit of a heel to keep my bare feet elevated off the sidewalk (I realize this makes no logical sense, but mentally, it seems more sanitary). And I’ve been loving the block heel look, especially since it is an incredibly easy style to walk in. The feminine ankle strap appealed to me as well. Fingers crossed, I will soon have an actual real-life tan, but if not, then I figured at least the white patent leather could help.

Matt Bernson sandalsCourtesy Nixon

Jackie Fields, Writer/Reporter: My Nixon watch may just be more reliable and more stylish than any guy I’ve ever dated in N.Y.C. I suppose that’s not saying much, but seriously, this gorgeous piece of sophisticated bling has been a fixture on my wrist every single day for the last two years. But after being attached, literally, for so long, I recently felt it was time to lighten and brighten up for summer. Of course, I went right back to the source of my happiness, Nixon, for my newest acquisition, the Small Time Teller (shown here in lime, but I got the lively red pepper). There is nothing childish about this vivid timepiece, thanks so the sleek design. I promptly debuted it on Memorial Day (along with my new short-sleeve chambray top and skinny white jeans from the J.Crew outlet). What’s best? It’s curbing my need for a bright mani, which means less time in the nail salon and more time kicking back at the Boat Basin.

StitchFix reviewCourtesy Alex Apatoff

Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: I’ve seen enough people raving on Facebook about Stitch Fix that my curiosity finally got the better of me and I gave it a go. The premise is that you share your sizes and style preferences with a “stylist,” who fills a box with items picked just for you. You keep (and pay for) what you want and return the rest. I was skeptical while ordering (those monthly subscription sites never work out for me), skeptical while unpacking the box (nothing I would have picked for myself) and sold once I tried them on.

Somehow the stylist pretty much “got me” on the first try (four total hits and one miss, though some things were a little pricier than expected). For budget reasons, I only kept this printed Collective Concepts top (modeled here with the Anine Bing blazer I bought last week and can’t decide if I like, hence the tags. Should I keep it?) — and next month the stylist will take my notes from this delivery and apply to them to the next one so the items are even more my style. I’m a convert!

Oh, and because I know you’re dying to know where I got that adorable iPhone case, it’s by Minnie & Emma (if it looks familiar, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Garner are fans). The polka-dot/monogram combo with a hot pink background was irresistible to me, and I can always find it in my purse — plus it improves my selfies by 130% (science).

What We're Buying Our Dads for Father's Day

$

Father’s Day is Sunday! What have you got planned? We always struggle to find the right gift for the top guys in our lives, but this year, we’re hoping that our picks walk that dad-approved line of well-priced, cool, useful and not too fancy. See below for our picks — unless you’re a style editor dad, in which case: no peeking!

RELATED PHOTOS: Star-approved gifts for Fathers’ Day!

Nike FuelbandCourtesy Nike

Whitney Little, Associate Producer: My dad hasn’t always been the picture of health, unless your picture of health is someone who drinks only coffee and sodas throughout the day. He’s not big into fruits and vegetables, but he is big into watching television in the recliner at night. You get the idea. But he made a New Year’s resolution to get into shape, and recently walked a half marathon, much to the surprise of my entire family. So now that he’s on the right track (he’s even drinking water!), I want to continue those efforts by giving him this Nike+ FuelBand SE, which lets him know once he’s reached his daily fitness goals and keeps track of everything on his phone. It’s also pretty simple to use, so he can’t pull the “technology is too complicated” excuse. And who knows, maybe this time next year he’ll be running a full marathon!

Montblanc cologneCourtesy Montblanc

Andrea Lavinthal, Style and Beauty Director: People are always amused when I tell them that I get my love of beauty products from my father. But it’s true: my dad exfoliates on the reg, loves himself some shea butter and even owns a Mason Pearson brush (despite being follicularly challenged). So it’s no surprise that he’s also very discerning when it comes to his cologne. He favors light, citrus-based scents by classic brands like Penhaligon’s or obscure companies that even I have never heard of and for that reason I’ve avoided giving him a fragrance for Father’s Day until now. The new Montblanc Legend Special Edition has a uniquely fresh blend of mint, sweet lime and apple that I think he’ll love. And if he doesn’t? Well, my brother is also a dad, and I’m pretty sure he’s still using the same cologne he wore to prom.

Manuel Racim shirtsCourtesy Manuel Racim, Amazon

Zoë Ruderman, Deputy Style and Beauty Director: No, my dad doesn’t have any grandkids to read this children’s book aloud to (sorry, parents!), but I think he’ll enjoy receiving a copy of it anyway. The book is all about the city coping with and recovering from the Boston Marathon bombings with the help of the Red Sox, who won the World Series later that year. And since my dad’s sister wrote the book and he’ll know I got his copy for free, I figured I should get him a gift I actually spent money on, as well. Which is why I’m setting him up with an appointment to get a custom button-down from Manuel Racim. My boyfriend was recently measured there and the final product fits him incredibly well. You get to pick everything from the button color to the shape of the collar, and it can even be monogrammed. Let’s hope he likes the Manuel Racim experience enough to forget that I haven’t given him what he really wants (see: first sentence of this write-up).

Everlane polo shirtsCourtesy Everlane

Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: My dad has his sharp work attire down to a science, but his lounging gear can sometimes leave something to be desired (so, he’s like every dad ever). He occasionally will step out in sweat-wicking golf club polos and khakis I’m pretty sure were last seen on Michael Jordan in 1999.

Last year, my sister and I upgraded his sunglasses style to a pair of really cool Ray-Bans, and this year I’m here to improve his polo game with a selection of shirts from Everlane. The cuts are flattering, the fabric is high-quality, and at $35 each, I can afford to buy him a few to put into his rotation — and there’s no way he’ll complain that I spent too much.

ESPA shave kitCourtesy ESPA

Brittany Talarico, Associate Style Editor: Unlike Andrea’s dad who is well-versed in men’s grooming products, my dad sticks to drugstore buys. So whenever I can, I like to introduce him to fancy shave items. This year it will be ESPA’s Dual Action Shavemud and Post Shave rescue. The alternative shave cream contains shea butter and sweet almond oil (for moisturizing), and cocoa extract which helps inhibit hair growth — all things Barbasol does not, which is a step in the right direction!. (P.S.: I might also shell out for Stu’s Bloody Mary mix, because unlike men’s grooming, my dad does know a lot about making a great bloody, and he hasn’t tried this brand out yet.)

Cire Trudon candleCourtesy Mr. Porter

Jackie Fields, Writer/Reporter: I’m sure my stepdad would be infinitely happy if I enrolled him in a bacon of the month club, but I’m pretty confident in my choice of this Cire Trudon candle, instead. Not to make this about me (though my birthday is coming up and I love Balenciaga bracelets), but I was recently perusing Net-a-Porter for myself when I stumbled upon the brand’s new, drop-dead gorgeous candle collaboration with Giambattista Valli. It’s the best designer beauty buy of the season — I can’t afford Valli’s clothes, so this candle will do nicely.

I got to thinking: Didn’t dad just burn the last of my mom’s super-expensive candles? (And wasn’t mom furious?) Finally, I was privy to his one beauty obsession. So, I clicked onto Cire Trudon’s Balmoral Cut Grass scented candle. I figured since he’s a Saturday morning lawn-mowing kind of guy, he’ll love this medley of mint and pine. Plus, the history buff in him will flip once I tell him the centuries-old company made candles for Napoléon Bonaparte. If that’s not elevating dad to Boss status on Father’s Day, I don’t know what is.

Loop headphone holderCourtesy Loop

Catherine Kast, Writer/Reporter: My dad is really hard to shop for, and let’s just say I don’t have a great track record with Father’s Day gifts. One time I tried to give him an eye cream with SPF in it and he told me that “men don’t wear makeup.” This year I’m avoiding the inevitable “You shouldn’t have,” which he always means literally, and going small— not big. He loves going to the gym, and he loves his iPhone. So I’m getting him The Loop, a super-practical storage ring for earbuds. It eliminates the wasted minutes detangling the cord once you get on the treadmill. And it’s only $16.99 for a set of three! I’m buying a red and a blue (let’s call them “dad” colors) and I’m slipping in a lime green one for myself. With all the money I’ve saved, I might as well throw in a set of these awesome Yurbud earbuds. This way, he can listen to the “Chicken Fat” song from the latest iPhone workout commercial while doing lunges— without everyone else having to hear it too. Love you, dad!

What We're Buying: Summer-Friendly Shorts, Shirts and Shoes - and the Ultimate Sports Bra

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” This week, we’re all about fancy shorts for the office, a versatile shirt, some sexy metallic shoes and what one editor called “the holy grail of sports bras.”

Gap dress, Gap jean jacketCourtesy John Soper

John Soper, Editorial Assistant: Summers in N.Y.C. are hot. I don’t just mean an uncomfortably warm dry heat — more like, It’s so humid out that I am now completely drenched in sweat just from standing on the subway platform for five minutes. And according to the Farmer’s Almanac, our favorite sunshine season is supposed to be at its worst this year.

In order to show up at work without looking like I just completed a half marathon, I decided to invest in something that would keep me cool and chic – enter this pair of shorts from Zara. I wouldn’t normally consider Bermudas a work-appropriate article of clothing, but when I saw these dark floral-print jacquard beauties on the hanger, I knew I had to give them a try. The pattern and material are dressy enough that I can pair them with a button-down and blazer and still manage to look ready for my day (and keep my body temperature below 120 degrees). Our Style and Beauty Director even said she would wear them — sorry Andrea, boys only! (But they do have a miniskirt if you want to give the trend a try.)

Nili Lotan shirtCourtesy Nili Lotan

Leslie Fremar, celebrity stylist: In the summer, I’m always looking for easy, comfortable classic pieces that can transition from day to night, beach to restaurant. Ask.com users often ask which pieces they should invest in that are stylish, but still offer longevity and versatility. I tell people they should avoid trendy “investment” pieces, rather opting for one or two classic items if you’re going to spend more money.

My amazing lightweight button down indigo striped shirt from Nili Lotan is pure summer perfection and is one of my favorites. The piece also transitions nicely from spring into fall. Because it’s made from a very fine linen it can be worn in so many different ways — buttoned up under a blazer at night or to work, or with cute shorts for shopping or lunch. My personal favorite is wearing this shirt unbuttoned over a bathing suit as a cover up and you can throw it in your vacation bag to give a variety of outfit options without overstuffing your suitcase.

Lorna Jane sportswearCourtesy Alex Apatoff

Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: I’ve been wearing the same bulky sports bras and sorority tees to work out for [redacted] years for two reasons: One, I assumed I needed huge straps for support and two, trying on workout clothes sucks. (All that spandex!) But lately I’ve felt shamed into stepping it up a bit. So I took a deep breath, walked into the Lorna Jane store in SF — and totally changed my outlook on the whole shopping experience.

The very patient sales associate brought me a ton of stuff to try, including this thin-strap Pammy bra. I protested: “That’s not holding anything up.” Then I tried it. THEN I texted my mom and sister: “I’ve found the holy grail of sports bras.” It’s incredibly comfortable, super supportive, keeps everything firmly in place and has some fun extras like a clip to make the straps racerback and removable padding (seen here giving me a boost under my Lorna Jane tee — I’m seriously addicted now). I’ve worn it jogging, to CardioBarre and on (ugh) a hike, and I’m just as obsessed now as I was in the store.

Coach shoesCourtesy Brittany Talarico

Brittany Talarico, Associate Style Editor: If you were to look under my desk right now, you would find a mini mountain of stacked heels. I’m a little bit obsessed with the style. They feel a more polished than a wedge, but are way more comfortable than a pump or strappy stiletto, so they’ve become my go-to shoe for summer. And basically I can’t walk near a shoe store without checking out the stacked heel selection.

That’s exactly what happened on a quick trip to Bloomingdales last weekend. These gold Coach “Lexey” sandals caught my eye and they were the only pair left in my size. Plus, they were on sale with an additional 30% off. It was meant to be.

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” This week, we’ve all found the perfect version of what we were looking for, from animal-print heels to the ultimate personalized sunnies.

Loeffler Randall Tamsin heelsCourtesy Barneys

Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: I have a soft spot (get it?!) for animal-print anything, and I have yet to find the perfect pair of leopard-print heels. So even though I need absolutely no more shoes (my closet is full to bursting and I’ve already done several Goodwill runs) that didn’t stop me from picking up another pair of pumps on my quest for the ultimate leopard look. These Loeffler Randall “Tamsin” heels (oh, and also their d’Orsay flats. And these Rag & Bone boots. Damn you, Barneys New York sale!) were a total steal at $139 down from $350, and I love the luxe calf-hair texture and chic low heel. They haven’t arrived yet, but I’m already dreaming of all the pegged jeans and minidresses with which I’m going to wear them.

J Brand shirtCourtesy Ali Galgano

Ali Galgano, fouder of Charm & Chain: As a self-proclaimed jewelry addict, I’m constantly on the hunt for simple tops to showcase my oversized necklaces. The task isn’t always easy, as I’m forever drawn to prints, bright colors, and interesting silhouettes, all of which tend to compete. I came across this neon neoprene shirt by J Brand on a recent trip to LA and instantly fell in love. It’s that ideal happy medium between bold and basic. The best part? It has the perfect neckline to wear with any necklace, whether it’s one big statement piece or multiple layered pendants.

Custom Ray-BansrCourtesy Jackie Fields

Jackie Fields, Writer/Reporter: Earlier this month I was doing all the things one does when they’re craving a new pair of shades, even though their old ones are in pristine shape. This includes “accidentally” tossing them on hard surfaces and telling my friends that my current pair is all wrong for my face shape. As it turns out, Ray-Ban had just launched their first-ever customizable sunnies, which was the last straw I needed to splurge on a new pair.

I opted for the original Wayfarer with a matte finish, then chose turquoise front with classic black temples for a perfect mix of timeless and hipster. Next, I had the temples engraved with my initials, and selected a red case to store them in. The options were endless (you can also pick your lenses for and sizes of your frames), and the site is so easy to navigate. I customized them on a Tuesday and had them on Friday, just in time to debut them at brunch with friends. Friends who immediately understood why I’d needed new sunglasses so badly.

GlamGlow mud maskCourtesy GlamGlow

Katherine Foreman, Intern: The only thing weirder than combining volcanic rock, French sea clay and green tea leaf pieces is putting the combination on your face. At least, that’s what I kept telling myself when deciding whether or not to splurge on GlamGlow’s “TinglExfoliate” mud mask. But when I saw Michelle Phan‘s video about the product, I decided I might as well jump on the Glam-wagon. I was a little hesitant to fork over nearly $70 something I’d never tried, but after using it for the first time, I can’t imagine trusting anything else — volcanic rock or not — on my face. You can feel it working the entire time it’s on your skin. The ingredients work together to dive deep into your pores and pull out the gunk; you can even see it entering your pores as it dries! The tingling feeling leaves my face feeling fresh and the small exfoliating particles smooth your face into the perfect canvas for a day’s beauty regimen. The best part: a little goes a very long way. Here’s to a month’s worth of cheap, semi-weekly facials!

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” This week, we’ve found cute going-out attire and a skin-clearing scrub we adore.

LindsiCourtesy Lindsi

Lindsi Lane, “In the Fast Lane” blogger: This Alexis lace crop top has become a signature staple in my closet. Alexis makes such incredible clothing, it’s hard not to want everything when I see them! This crop top is super sexy but can be dressed down too, as I did here with a slouchy, floral pant. Other great pairings would be with high-waisted skirts or even a cute pair of denim cutoffs for an even more casual, cool look. Super versatile, sexy, and chic? Yup, I just had to have it!

Brittany Talarico, Associate Style Editor: I’d love to be the person who is always well prepared for party outfits, but instead, I’m the person who is always rushing to find something to wear the day of. No matter how hard I try to pick things out ahead of time, I always end up scrambling. That’s how I stumbled upon this romper for my friend Loni’s bachelorette party (she’s the brunette). With hours to go before our dinner reservation (followed by a night of ’90s music and dancing) I spotted the hot-pink printed onesie in the “Aqua” department of Bloomingdales. The bright color and short cut felt perfect for a bachelorette, and it’s super comfortable. Unfortunately, it’s no loner available online, but it’s still in stores, so if you find yourself shopping Bloomies’ Fourth of July sale, it might be worth trying on. (Best part: It’s under a hundy.)

Origins Ginzing scrubCourtesy Origins

Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: I’ve made no secret about how lazy I am when it comes to washing my face. But I keep trying to convince myself that perhaps it’s not a moral failing on my part — it’s just the result of using the wrong products, or something. So when I went to check out the complete makeover of the Origins store in San Francisco, I somehow got seduced by the chic new decor and all the gorgeous plants and fun samples and ended up walking out with a tube of the “Ginzing” face scrub.

It smells so good. It works really well. My skin is smooth and glowy today. It makes me feel more relaxed instantly (which I know is not the point of it, but citrus is my happy smell, so go with it). In fact, I think this might be the product that gets me to wash my face, like, two times a week instead of my usual point-five.

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” This week, we found a pair of sunnies that go with whatever outfit you’re wearing, and took advantage of some major shoe sales.

Ray Ban aviatorsCourtesy Brittany Talarico

Brittany Talarico, Associate Style Editor: I recently lost my favorite classic Ray-Ban aviators (they were actually my fiancé’s, which he generously passed on to me, so it really stung). After weeks of holding out hope that they might turn up, I decided it was time to look for a replacement pair. Immediately, I gravitated toward a similar aviator style. This time, however, I went for a metallic tortoise frame. The flecks of gold felt fresh, and I like the way they complement my hair color. Plus, just to make sure they were keepers, I took a few selfies, as any proactive shopper would.

Vince Camuto BottiesCourtesy Vince Camuto

Kelli Berglund, actress and star of Disney XD series Lab Rats: During my shopping trips, I always love to splurge on one item that I simply cannot live without. I did exactly that with a pair of beautiful Vince Camuto strappy booties. They can dress up jeans and a t-shirt or even dress down a simple cocktail dress. I love that they’re so unique, and I can wear them during any season. The cutouts and black leather keep them sophisticated yet playful, and they’re surprisingly so comfy! I always love for my shoes to have a little bit of height (since I’m not the tallest girl ever), and these shoes give me just the right amount without looking too formal.

Proenza Schouler heelsCourtesy Proenza Schouler

Catherine Kast, Writer/Reporter: I’ve been dying for the celeb-loved Nudist sandal by Stuart Weitzman, but it’s been hard for me to succumb to the heel height (4.5-in.) and the price (up to $625). Luckily, Net-A-Porter (I feel like they always have my back over there) was having a clearance sale, and I got these two-tone leather heels for basically a quarter of their original price tag. Sure they’re not a solid basic, but the black and white graphic pattern can hold its own as a statement shoe against a little white summer dress or a monochrome work outfit. It also has helped me upgrade my print-mixing game, standing out against my other summer staple: patterned shorts like the leopard-and-ikat ones I always wear by the shorts experts at Sea. With this awesome buy, I was able to hack two items off of my fashion bucket list for this season: high-heeled sandals with skinny ankle straps, and anything by Proenza Schouler. (P.S.: These have since sold out at Net-a-Porter, but you can shop them for 50% off here!)

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” This week, we got an expert recommendation on a bag that will go with everything you own, plus, jumped on the jogger pant bandwagon and found some great travel cosmetics.

White BagCourtesy Zulily

Amy E. Goodman, style expert and a lifestyle editor for zulily: When I’m not shuttling my kids to their activities, I’m attempting errands (read: procrastinating grocery shopping), traveling for work, meeting up with friends or un/packing for said work trip. And while I style my outfits depending on my mood du jour, there’s one thing in my fashion routine that has to remain stable — my bag. My everyday carryall has to rock pretty much every outfit. So consider a neutral hue like my Segolene Paris purse in egg shell, that matches most everything. Usually this satchel retails for $149, but is available at zulily for a fraction of the cost at $29.99! So you caught me: I heart my luxe bag even more for being the kind of buy that I don’t have to hide from my hubby. It’s versatile with top handles or an adjustable shoulder strap, a weight disperser for when my husband insists I carry all of his accessories too.

Urban Outfitters faux leather pantsCourtesy Urban Outfitters

John Soper, Editorial Assistant: Because I like to dress up every day, it would probably shock my coworkers to know that I own a pair of athletic shorts — multiple actually. The second I get home from a long day at the office, I love to shed my chic ensemble and slip into my comfy clothes. However, recently I discovered the magic of jogger pants and my entire outlook on life has changed.

These faux-leather bottoms from Urban Outfitters are probably the third or fourth pair (I’ve lost count) of this style that I’ve bought. They are sleek enough to dress up with a blazer at the office, and then I can pair them with a tee after work when I want to just relax on the couch with my Seamless and Netflix accounts.

Antonym makeupCourtesy Antonym

Whitney Little, Associate Producer: I recently experienced one of the greatest triumphs of my life: fitting nine days’ worth of stuff into a carry-on suitcase. My main stress resulted from trying to bring along all my tried and true beauty products in travel-sized containers. Then I found Antonym’s makeup line, which truly saved my vacation, thanks to their baked foundation and blush. The eco-friendly company’s products are affordable but feel high-end (my face looked great in all my vacation photos!), and the powders don’t take up space in my precious liquids bag (a huge plus when also bringing along hair products, sunscreen, moisturizers, etc). The best part? The marbled aspect means the stuff is multi-functional: I used the lighter shades in the foundation as a highlighter, and the deep pinks in the blush as eyeshadow. I was so happy with the products I still use them, even when I don’t have to fit them into a small suitcase.

Brittany Talarico, Associate Style Editor: My fiancé and I finally booked our honeymoon to Belize. So now all I want to do is online shop and buy cute coverups, bikinis and sundresses to wear. (Which is pretty easy thanks to all the amazing summer sales happening right now.) Luckily, this weekend I was home doing some wedding related stuff with my mom, and as part of our routine, we headed to the mall for a quick look. It ended in Forever 21, where I found these two printed bottoms. I loved the pleated skort style of the blue pair, and really loved the print of the other pair.

They both feel perfect for my upcoming tropical vacation — I’ll probably post an Instagram photo in at least one of them on our day trip to explore Mayan ruins. And since they are only $15.80 each, it was no brainer to get both. (Okay, maybe my mom bought me one of ‘em.)

Jen Rade necklacesWary Meyers

Jen Rade, Celebrity Stylist: I love Iwona Ludyga necklaces. They’re all handmade in Brooklyn. I love how delicate but strong her pieces are. Each bead is so beautiful and the way she puts them together is true jewelry artistry. The rings, bracelets, necklaces … ahhhhh, I want them all!!! I am so obsessed with her pieces, every time I walk into her LA PR showroom, IHPR, all I can do is stare at the wall of her pieces and I forget what job I went there to pull for. I literally want every piece she makes and they all look so great layered and stacked. LOVE!

Jen Rade is a celebrity stylist whose clients have included Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Morrison and Abbie Cornish. Her clothing collection, EDGE, can be found on QVC (tune in for her next appearances August 23 at 8 a.m. EST and August 25 at 7 p.m. EST!) and you can follow her on Twitter and Instagram!

Wary Meyers CandleWary Meyers

Andrea Lavinthal, Style and Beauty Director: My family has a house at the Jersey Shore and on days when it’s cloudy and cool there are only two things to do: drink and shop. I combined both this past weekend by having a few afternoon cocktails on the Asbury Park boardwalk then strolling in and out of the quirky boutiques that line it. I found a really cool store called Red Moon which stocks its shelves with products that have been created “in small batch by passionate people across the country,” including hand-poured candles by a Portland, Maine-based brand called Wary Meyers. I probably appeared way more tipsy than I was since I practically huffed each one while shouting “you have to smell this!” to no one in particular. I had such a hard time deciding which scent to pick that I gave up and bought three: Coco Nuit (coconut, suntan oil and cannabis), Brasilla (pictured — Brazilian rosewood, cassis and amber musk) and Lovely, Honey (honey and exotic amber). And at a reasonable (at least by candle standards) $28 a piece, I won’t wince every time I burn them.

Third Love BraCourtesy Third Love

Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: The only thing worse than jeans shopping is bra shopping, a fact that I believe is held as a universal truth and probably written in the Rosetta stone. Luckily there’s no problem I have that the iPhone can’t solve, and thanks to the miracle of technology, I now have a perfectly-fitted bra, no dressing-room measuring tape fumbling required. The ThirdLove app uses the iPhone camera and gyroscope to find your bra size (down to the half-cup) and then sends you the bra of your choice (and you can customize the straps, lace, style, the works).

I wish I could say I picked out something lacy and pretty, but because I’m 28 going on 92, I fell for the 24/7 T-shirt bra they just launched. It’s super lightweight, super comfortable, fits perfectly (somehow that magical app really did get my size exactly right) and disappears under all my shirts. Best part? It’s got all the features of a high-end bra but it’s only $55. You have my word as a lady that I will never get groped by a teen saleswoman in a lingerie store again.

Antonym makeupCourtesy Jackie Fields

Jackie Fields, Writer/Reporter: If I had a dollar for every time some beautiful celeb told me the beauty advice they swear by is “drinking water — and lots of it!” I’d be writing to you from my satellite office in St. Bart’s. But weirdly I’m not rich yet, and conveniently water is free, so instead I’m focusing on following the advice of all those gorgeous stars and upping my water intake. This of course lead me to look for an office carafe! On the advice of a friend, I picked up this Soma, and for now it’s my new favorite desk accessory (that may change when the Karl Lagerfeld Barbie launches). Most days I can’t find the time to go outside to grab lunch, let alone run to the water cooler, so I love that it holds six glasses of water, which is all about all I can stomach in a day. I also invested in this brand because filters last about two months, and are delivered to me, so it’s kind of this lazy gal’s dream item.

Happy National Lipstick Day: We Pick Our Favorite Shades

We usually share our favorite shopping picks on Tuesdays, but in honor of National Lipstick Day (yes, it’s an actual holiday!), we’re sharing our favorite lip shades. From one major Joyus find to some seriously luxe formulas and the best drugstore buys, see the pout products that have style editors puckering up (and taking tons of selfies).

Lipstick Queen, Jungle Queen lipstickCourtesy Lipstick Queen

Zoë Ruderman, Deputy Style and Beauty Director: I picked up this Lipstick Queen “Jungle Queen” for two reasons: It’s a new shade from one of my favorite lipstick brands (moisturizing, never flaky) and secondly, because it reminds me of watermelon (as in, the kind Bey’s been drankin’). I’m normally a nude lip kinda girl, or maybe a classic red for certain occasions, but this pretty pink-but-not-too-saccharine color is so summery, I couldn’t resist. I’ll be wearing it all night, oh hoo oh. Sorry, couldn’t resist that either.

Andrea Lavinthal Truffle Tease Maybelline lipstickAndrea Lavinthal, Inset Maybelline

Andrea Lavinthal, Style and Beauty Director: I hope I don’t get my beauty editor card revoked for admitting this, but I rarely wear lipstick. In fact, I hate the way color looks on my lips (yet another thing Angelina Jolie and I have in common). So on the rare occasion that I do apply lipstick, my preferred shade is very pale and beige, or as I like to call it, “sexy corpse.” Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs in “Truffle Tease” has a just a hint of peach so it doesn’t completely wash me out and despite the matte, opaque finish the formula is moisturizing so you don’t have that unattractive cakey look.

Loni Venti CoverGirl Hot 305Courtesy Loni Albert

Loni Venti, Style and Beauty Editor: As a wannabe pin-up girl, I wear red lipstick about 355 days a year. CoverGirl LipPerfection lip color in “Hot #305″ is the ultimate scarlet hue — even Janelle Monae is obsessed. It looks gorg on every skin tone, never ever dries out your pout, lasts all day (honest! I usually reapply after lunch and that’s it!) and it makes your teeth look über white. Bonus: it costs less than a green juice.

Alex Apatoff Jouer SimoneCourtesy Alex Apatoff

Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: I love bright lipstick — so much so that when we were trying out lip colors with Audrina my coworkers kept sliding neon shades over, saying, “This is such an Alex color.” My favorite hue varies depending on my mood, the day, the weather … Today I’m loving Jouer’s “Simone,” a super-rich cool red that amps up my very basic outfit and makes me feel more awake. (And yes, I did my go-to lip prep routine first!)

Courtesy Jackie Fields

Jackie Fields, Writer/Reporter: There’s a perfect red for every woman, but I’m lucky enough to have two that I’ve sworn by for a few years now. For a bright pop of color during the day I swear by Rouge D’Armani “401”, an orange-red, while Rouge D’Armani 400 is my true blue rouge, my night-time go-to. When I have a few minutes to kill and I combine them (with a lip brush of course) that’s when the magic happens.

Courtesy Brittany Talarico

Brittany Talarico, Associate Style Editor: I still feel like I’m a seven-year-old girl playing with lipstick when I put on this bright shade, which makes wearing Dolce & Gabbana’s Classic Cream formula in “Guilty” so much more fun. It’s the perfect hue to play up an LBD or LWD, and I know I’m on-trend while wearing it because hot pinks are all over the carpet right now. The only problem: I’m still warming up my fiancé to the statement look, but when I got out with my friends they “get it.”

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” This week, see the blue polish we’ll wear into fall, the greatest T-shirt bra, the best-organized bag out there, a cute (and clever) pendant — plus, the unisex shades style expert Lawrence Zarian is loving!

REvlon nailpolishCourtesy Revlon

Loni Venti, Style and Beauty Editor: Once August rolls around, I’m always on the “style fence” between summer fun and fall fierceness. I find this predicament particularly stressful when it comes to the nail polish department (I know, my life is really hard). Before lacquering up, I agonize over what shade will be be beachy and bright enough to pair with airy sun dresses — yet still cool and complementary to the fall clothing that I’ve started to work into my wardrobe (leopard and black leather are the trends I’m super stoked about). My brand-spankin’-new solution? Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy nail color in “Wild Card.” This attention-getting, electric blue hue is playfully bright enough to pair with a bikini and Birkenstocks, yet packs enough attitude to road test my newest fall wardrobe updates. Also exciting: the gel-like finish stays super shiny and takes way longer to chip then regular polish.

Lawrence ZarianCourtesy Lawrence Zarian

Lawrence Zarian, Lifestyle Expert and Author: For summer 2014, it was all about beautiful hues of blue! Instead of buying an entire wardrobe of blue, I just updated up my “look” with an amazing pair of aviator frames from Sama eyewear, my favorite sunglasses brand. Aviators look good on all face shapes and sizes and choosing blue makes it fresh and modern. I’m obsessed with my new Sama frames, especially because they work well for men or women!

Lo & Sons bagCourtesy Lo & Sons

Alex Apatoff, Style News Editor: I’ve been traveling so much that I finally reached my baggage breaking point. Juggling a laptop case, purse and suitcase was becoming a real pain (literally and figuratively). So when my sister, who travels all the time for work, saw my struggle, she laughed, then sent me the link to her Lo & Sons “OG” bag. Now I can’t leave the house without it. It holds virtually everything I could ever need during the day (seriously, watch this video if you don’t believe me). It’s incredibly well-designed — nothing gets lost, despite the size, thanks to all the thoughtful pockets and compartments. It fits securely over the handle of a wheeled suitcase. And it’s super-durable, so it won’t get destroyed on its way from the gym to work to the airport. It’s made traveling nearly pleasant. When was the last time you heard anyone say that?

Victoria's Secret BraCourtesy Victoria’s Secret

Brittany Talarico, Associate Style Editor: Confession: When I was in in high school I used to wear a water bra — and I was obsessed with it. But now that I’m a more developed 27-year-old woman, my taste in bras has completely changed. I like very little padding and very comfy materials, but don’t want to look like I’m wearing old lady undergarments. Enter the Victoria’s Secret limited edition unlined demi bra. It’s still a sexy silhouette (plus, has that sheer lace material), but the stretchy demi cups are super comfortable, and I love that it doesn’t feel like I’m wearing a bulky bra. And it looks really cute under a tissue tee with some boyfriend jeans or cutoffs on a lazy weekend afternoon. So if you plan to celebrate National Underwear today by buying some new intimates, check this one out or the rest of the brand’s new Simple Sexy collection.

By Kilian pendantCourtesy Jackie Fields

Jackie Fields, Writer/Reporter: There are two things I love in this world more than anything else: perfume and jewelry. So when I discovered niche brand By Kilian was launching scented necklaces, I squealed like it was Christmas morning (but it was July, people), then I marched down to their NYC store to discover the designs. Forget your childhood memories of perfumed bling (if you’re like me, you may have a collection of stinky, oversize rings tucked away at home). These pieces, and the roughly 30 scents that you have the options to infuse them with, are the epitome of luxe.

I chose the rhodium-plated locket necklace because it blended well with the chains I never remove, then added the “Love Don’t Be Shy” scented ceramic disc, because I couldn’t resist the combination of jasmine, iris and vanilla. The disc is supposed to remain fragrant for a year, but if I want to switch things up, I can replace the scented ceramic back at the boutique. At first I was hesitant about the $245 price tag, but then I remembered I’ve paid a lot more for baubles that are solely single-purpose. So far, this scented pendant has paid for itself in compliments — both on its gorgeous design, and unexpected aroma.

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” This week, see what our guest contributor, the gorgeous Shay Mitchell, recently added to her closet and her clutch. Plus, the mini satchel we’re obsessed with for fall, the prettiest palette and more!

Valentino rockstud sandals, roll on perfumeInset:Kevin Mazur/Wireimage

Shay Mitchell, actress and lifestyle blogger: These tan Valentino “Rockstud” sandals go with everything — and they’re so comfortable. I loved the pointy stiletto style when they first came out, but I’m happy I waited for the sandal version. They feel more me!

As for my recent beauty purchase, I have a secret. I buy some of my perfumes from Whole Foods. I love the “Persian Garden” fragrance they sell there. It’s a little roll on, I put it on, and it’s kind of like my perfume for the day. It’s only $10!

Club Monaco gold pumpsCourtesy Club Monaco

Andrea Lavinthal, Style and Beauty Director: While the rest of the fashion world is trying to make pre-fall happen, I’m still buying summer clothes since most stores are having crazy sales. My latest score: a pair of gold leather pumps from Club Monaco that were marked down from $249 to $149, plus an additional 40% off. Not only were they a great deal, but I can’t start wearing them now and keep going right into fall and winter.

Cambridge Satchel Mini, GiltCourtesy Alex Apatoff

Alex Apatoff, Style and Beauty Editor: I’ve been craving a full-size Cambridge Satchel for approximately six million years, but I have been resisting buying any more bags that I can pack my entire life into (I’m only 28 but I have the back — and television preferences — of an 80-year-old). Then I got invited to a Gilt event fêteing their exclusive colors of the Cambridge mini satchels and I almost passed out with joy. (I imagine it’s how the inventor of Twix felt when he combined everything he loved into one bar.)

The Gilt crew was kind enough to give me this bag in the “Chianti” shade, but it was too hard to pick just one color, so I’m going back for the sale (tomorrow at 9:00 p.m. — they’ve got a countdown clock running with a preview of some of the ten hues) to pick up the “Dove Gray” version — I saw it in person and it was totally lustworthy. The cutest part? They had tons of little mini products with which to stuff the mini bags (the tiny Essie nailpolish rivals this video for adorability), but take my word for it, it’s the perfect size for a wallet, phone, three lipsticks, your blotting papers, a mirror and seventeen receipts for your next night out.

Hourglass Cosmetics Ambient Lighting paletteCourtesy Catherine Kast

Catherine Kast, Style Writer: I’ve been trying to find the perfect highlighter for the end of summer/early fall makeup lull. You know, those moments when you don’t feel like applying your amazing liquid bronzer anymore but still just can’t stomach real foundation. I decided to go with the Hourglass Cosmetics Ambient Lighting palette, which contains three of the brand’s amazing shades. The first one on the left is “Dim Light,” which is super subtle, as far as highlighters go. I think it’s great for all over use on top of a tinted moisturizer since it’s not crazy shimmery. The middle powder is “Incandescent Light,” which is a lighter beige that I used to highlight the tops of my cheek bones. The powder on the right is, “Radiant Light,” which I used as a light bronzer lower on my cheeks. This even works as a quick eye brightener: I used my finger to get a little of the center powder and put it lightly on the center of my lids for a natural, yet ethereal glow. It makes selfies without a filter possible, and isn’t that what we all hope for these days?

J.Crew ShoesCourtesy Brittany Talarico

Brittany Talarico, Associate Style Editor: Confession: I REALLY wasn’t in the market for another pair of sandals (my fiancé has implemented a new “one in, one out” policy, because my closet is so stuffed at the moment), but sometimes you can’t pass up a good deal. And that’s exactly what happened with these silver crackled stacked heels from J.Crew. I was in the store to make a return, and these metallic stunners beckoned me from the cash register. Not only were they on sale, but there was an additional promotion happening and I nabbed them for 60 bucks (originally $250). I’ve already worn them with an LWD to my bridal shower and now have been wearing them in the office because I love them that much. The style is still available online, but not at the same discounted price. But I’d definitely watch them if you’re interested — that price tag is bound to be reduced again!

What We're Buying: Lots of Jewelry and the Best Backyard Accessory Ever

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” This week, we’ve been inspired to add some new jewelry to our collections. Plus, the one candle you need to bring as a gift to your next barbecue!

Lisa Hoffman beaded scented barceletsCourtesy Andrea Lavinthal

Andrea Lavinthal, Style and Beauty Director: I recently had the pleasure of sitting next to perfumer Lisa Hoffman at a dinner. Several years ago, she received vintage earrings as a birthday present from her husband Dustin (yes, as in Dustin Hoffman). Inside each earring was a hidden gem, which inspired Lisa to create her own line of jewelry with tiny fragrance-infused beads hidden inside each piece that subtly diffuse the scent. “I wanted to encourage people to wear fragrance their way,” she told me. After a few glasses of wine and an epic cookie platter, I’m now wearing a few colorful bracelets that I “borrowed” from Lisa’s wrist, including her latest creation, “Brazilian Begonia”, which features gorgeous blue beads and a gold ball that houses the most incredible scent of lemon lime, sandalwood, amber and vanilla (out in October). My other favorite: the purple “Kerala Ashok Garden” bracelet, which features a blend of violet, pear, apricot and jasmine.

Aromaflage candleCourtesy Zoë Ruderman

Zoë Ruderman, Deputy Style and Beauty Director: Humblebrag comin’ atcha: I moved to an apartment with a backyard earlier this year and the mosquitos have been a problem. The brand behind my favorite all-natural, good-smelling, DEET-free bug spray recently came out with a candle version. It has a nice scent (read: it’s not citronella) and feels more like a pretty bathroom candle than a clunky outdoors one. Now the BBQs end when we run out of burgers and beers, not when people are so eaten alive that they have to call it a night.

Vida necklace and earringsCourtesy Elizabeth and James

Loni Venti, Style and Beauty Editor: I love jewelry that looks delicate and classic at a glance — but has a twist upon further inspection. So when I spotted these new “Vida” ear cuffs and matching necklace from Elizabeth and James (both $175), they went straight on my fall shopping list. The sprinkling of white topaz adds just enough sparkle to dress up jeans and a tee or to edge up your office attire. I’d never wear them together of course, but I love them both too much to decide on one! How cute is it to have XX (how we all sign off our love notes and flirty text messages! Kisses!) floating around our neck or ear lobes? Plus, XX is roman numeral twenty and my last name is Venti (Italian for twenty), so the universe is basically insisting that I bust out my credit card and bag these babies ASAP — amiright?

We have a special edition of What We’re Buying this week, and we want you to follow suit. First, click here and take a quick quiz to find out who your celebrity style twin is. Then shop totally on-trend fall looks based on your result! It’s pretty addictive, so have your credit cards ready.

red state dressCourtesy State

Zoë Ruderman, Deputy Style and Beauty Director: According to the quiz, I’m a Jamie Chung, which sounds about right since I love everything she wears. After getting my result, I searched for the “Get Her Fiancé” button, but couldn’t find it so I clicked “Shop Her Look” since that’s the next best thing. The picks are right on point for Jamie (and therefore, me): lots of pieces that fall firmly in the trend-concious-but-not-trendy category including fall jackets, dresses, jeans and shoes, shoes and more shoes — clearly, this site has me figured out. I’m adding this red fit-and-flare from 1.State, which is a perfect transitional item; great on its own and also with opaque tights, boots, a black blazer and a statement necklace. I think my twin Jamie would approve.

Brittany Talarico, Associate Style Editor: I’m definitely not afraid to try out the latest trends (right now I have a row of metallic LuLu DK bracelets up my arm, and I’m wearing a pair of pants that are a hybrid between gaucho and harem styles), so when I got matched with Selita Ebanks (she’s known for her glam style) I was a little bit surprised, but was also excited to shop. My pick? This edgy faux leather and calf hair moto jacket from BCBG generation. Because of the texture, it looks totally luxe, but it’s currently on sale for a great price. I plan to pair it with a sequin midi skirt that and slouchy tee for a look that would make Selita proud.

Vince Camuto bagCourtesy Vince Camuto

Alex Apatoff, Senior Style and Beauty Editor: Of course I’m a “sophisticated” Cat Deeley — all I’m missing is the chic British accent! My “style twin” shopping list led me to this lovely Vince Camuto shoulder bag, which has all the luxe touches I’m looking for this fall: a rich oxblood hue, gorgeous gold hardware and a ladylike structured shape. It’s going to look killer against any coat I wear this fall. And my favorite thing is the “worth the splurge” price tag: it’s $248, but it’s never going out of style, so by the time I’m done with it, it will be mere pennies per wear.

red Jessica Simpson pumpsCourtesy Dillards

Loni Venti, Style and Beauty Editor: Despite Bella Thorne being twelve years my junior, the quiz was totally right about our matching fashion formulas. We both love short, flared dresses paired with flirty stilettos, and super femme accessories. I guess I’m a teen queen at heart? I’d love to buy all of the girly goodness that popped up when I “shopped her look,” but I crushed the hardest on these gorgeous Jessica Simpson Claudette d’Orsay Pumps. Sexy red heels are timeless, attention-getting, and can be worn a bajillion ways (with skinny jeans and a moto jacket on date night or with a shift dress to the office). I’ll be flaunting these babies, and channeling my style bestie Bella, all season long.

Lisa Rinna, actress, TV personality and businesswoman: I love this Iro moto jacket for the fall! It has such a great fit. It’s edgy, yet has a feminine cut. There’s great detail and you can wear it over a dress, pencil skirt or even just a black or white tank top/t-shirt with denim jeans. It’s a different twist on the moto jacket. I can’t get enough leather jackets and I love this line.
Tune in to QVC September 8 at 11:00 p.m. EST to watch Lisa present the latest styles from her Belle Gray by Lisa Rinna collection.
